LEARN ABOUT THE HERBS

Cherry Stems: According to Selma (the namesake of this drink) Turkish Folklore prizes the cherry stem for its slender nature and diuretic properties. As the lore tells it, people who enjoy cherry stems will find themselves to be prosperous and in good health. Selma has been making teas with cherry stems ever since she first heard this tale; we decided to take a page from her book and give it a try. Enjoy!

Dandelion Root: Dandelion’s bitter flavor makes it a useful ally in digestion and detoxification. As a cholagogue and a hepatic, dandelion helps to support the liver, and as a diuretic it helps the kidneys to flush toxins out of the system. The bitter flavor of dandelion helps to stimulate the digestive organs and aids in efficient digestion. Dandelion is a prized plant in the European material medica, and exhibits tremendous resilience, as it easily grows almost anywhere.

Lemon Balm: A refreshing herb that has traditionally been used to treat anxiety and depression. As a carminative it is effective in dispelling wind from the digestive tract, and can be useful to help alleviate bloating after eating.

Ginger Root: A warming root that helps get the digestive fires going! Ginger is soothing to an upset stomach, and helps to dispel the gas and wind that can cause bloating when we digest our foods. Ginger’s pleasant flavor combined with its many healing properties makes it a powerhouse for the digestive and immune systems.

Cinnamon: A warming herb that brings fire to the internal systems of our body. It is used in many cultures throughout the world, and is one our favorite kitchen/medicine hybrids. Cinnamon’s delightful flavor adds spice and depth to any formulation it graces.
